Updated I-9 Form Available

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released the revised version of the Form I-9 for employers to begin using. the previous I-9 version can be used through October 31, 2023, but after that, the revised Form I-9 must be used, or employers will be fined.  

The updated version of Form I-9 includes the following changes:

• Reduces Sections 1 and 2 to a single page, down from two pages and reduced the form's instructions from 15 pages to eight pages.
• Moves the Section 1 Preparer and/or Translator Certification area and Section 3, Reverification and Rehire to standalone supplements that employers can provide to employees when necessary.
• Revises the Lists of Acceptable Documents page to include some acceptable receipts, as well as guidance and links to information on automatic extensions of employment authorization documentation.
• Includes a checkbox allowing employers to indicate they examined Form I-9 documentation remotely under a newly authorized virtual procedure rather than via physical examination.

To participate in the remote examination of Form I-9 documents, employers must be enrolled in E-Verify and be in good standing, examine and retain "clear and legible" copies of all documents, conduct a live video interaction with the employee during the verification process, and create an E-Verify case if the employee is a new hire.  The new form can be found at;
